Biography
Saam Takaloo is a decisive legal adviser and formidable advocate, offering adept and effective counsel and strategy from the boardroom to the courtroom. Saam’s practice is focused on complex and high-stakes commercial and corporate litigation spanning a wide range of disciplines.
Through his inquisitive nature and tireless passion for learning, Saam has amassed a wealth of high-level experience in every aspect of cases in both state and federal court, from inception all the way to resolution, trial, or appeal. This includes handling and arguing a multitude of dispositive motions, mediating settlements for clients, and chairing trials and appeals, all to significant success.
Saam’s practice spans a wide variety of industries and subject matter, including banking and finance, entertainment, hospitality, fashion, real estate, labor and employment, trade secret, intellectual property, trust and probate, business, management, and corporate and partnership disputes, as well as other business matters. Saam’s clients range from Fortune 500 corporations to high-net-worth individuals and small businesses.
Saam’s approach to litigation is rooted in steadfast advocacy, combining his skills and experience with curiosity and empathy towards his clients, as well as ownership over their legal issues. Saam invests time into counseling his clients on their goals, and mastering the subject matter and unique circumstances at play, in order to ensure that his strategy best anticipates and effectively navigates even the most complex challenges. As a result, Saam is consistently focused on achieving the highest level of success for his clients through the most efficient means possible.
Saam has been consistently recognized for his work and results, named a “Southern California Rising Star” by Super Lawyers magazine in the area of Business Litigation, as well as “One to Watch” by Best Lawyers in America in Commercial Litigation, Entertainment and Sports Law, Real Estate Litigation, Real Estate Law, and Intellectual Property Litigation.
Saam is an ardent supporter of Blank Rome’s pro bono efforts, which stems from his passion for public service and supporting vulnerable groups and individuals in need. Saam actively participates in pro bono matters, most notably representing refugee clients in immigration proceedings, assisting voters with election matters, and aiding victims of natural disasters.
Outside of the firm, Saam is heavily involved in his community, serving in various local and national capacities on the board of directors of the Iranian American Bar Association since 2019, most recently as the current president of the Los Angeles Chapter. Through his position, Saam has participated in and contributed to a multitude of educational, charitable and community outreach initiatives, and has worked with a significant number of local nonprofit organizations and educational institutions.
Experience
- Briefed and obtained a unanimous reversal before the California Court of Appeal in a complex real estate dispute involving former brothers-in-law and various other parties. (Blank Rome Secures Reversal in the California Court of Appeal in a Complex Real Estate Dispute).
- Obtained a unanimous defense verdict after a six-day civil RICO and trade secret jury trial in the United States District Court of the Central District of California. - Briefed and obtained a partial summary judgment ruling on a Defend Trade Secrets Act claim based on complex pre-emption and conflict of law issues.
- Successfully obtained a dismissal with prejudice at the pleading stage on behalf of a talent manager in a high-profile sexual harassment action involving numerous claims.
- Prevailed on an Anti-SLAPP motion disposing of an adverse Cross-Complaint in a complex joint venture dispute involving a medical practice and subsequently obtained a 5-figure attorney fee and cost award.
- Obtained a favorable settlement in commercial real estate transaction dispute based on summary judgment motion practice and aggressive advocacy.
- Secured a nominal settlement before trial on behalf of an international bank in a fraud action brought by a borrower, arising out of a construction loan for a shopping mall, with a $60 million amount in controversy.
- Successfully obtained a complete summary judgment ruling for an international clothing manufacturer, as well as three of its affiliates, on employment discrimination and wrongful termination claims brought by an executive-level employee.
- Secured a nuisance value settlement for a celebrity hairstylist in a personal injury action brought by a customer, through filing a summary judgment motion that implicated employee vs independent contractor issues minimizing the client’s liability.
- Represented an executive-level employee of an international clothing brand in a wrongful termination action in the Central District of California, arising out of whistleblower complaints. Obtained a favorable settlement for the client by successfully opposing a motion to dismiss and transfer that was partially based on complex jurisdictional issues.
- Represented a high-profile actress in an insurance bad faith action in the Central District of California, arising out of the 2018 Woolsey Fire in Malibu, California. Obtained a multitude of favorable results in pretrial motions that ultimately led to a seven-figure jury verdict.
- Represented the North American franchisees of an international clothing brand in a complex joint venture dispute involving fraud, breach of fiduciary duty and breach of contract claims brought against the franchisor.
- Acted as lead counsel in mediation on a large multi-party international manufacturing dispute, resulting in a favorable settlement.
