Arthur W. Hankin

Biography

Arthur Hankin concentrates his practice in commercial and tort litigation with substantial emphasis upon matters and contracts arising from:

Art Hankin is a national trial counsel for major carriers and companies. He has tried more than 200 cases to jury verdicts in his career, and tried the first in the country football/concussion case to a defense verdict on behalf of the NCAA. He is also certified as a mediator by the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and is actively involved in alternative dispute resolution (“ADR”) proceedings. Art has successfully tried to verdict over 200 cases. He has been a licensed pilot for over 40 years and has been an invited speaker at the SMU AirLaw Symposium.

Outside the Firm

Art loves to play golf, is a wine enthusiast, and spends time in New York City and San Francisco with his family. He can be seen on Sundays in the fall at Eagles games with his son or daughter as he has been a season ticket holder for over 30 years.

  • Defense of concussion litigation arising out of college athletic programs.
  • Coverage dispute involving environmental contamination in Lockheed Skunk Works plant during construction of Stealth Bomber with $1 billion in coverage at issue.
  • A manufacturer of an entertainment system for an international airline following a fatal crash caused by the burning of the insulation in the aircraft’s flight entertainment system.
  • A hospital, in dozens of cases arising out of employment of nurse who confessed to being a serial killer.
  • Represented carrier for Massport/Logan Airport after 9/11 terrorist attacks.
  • Defense of the owner of aircraft which crashed in Colombia South America killing two of three occupants on board.
  • Defense of a medical school from alleged injury by student in lab claiming it caused inability to become a physician.
  • Federal Tort Claim against USA by hospital claiming right of contribution following settlement of birth injury malpractice claim.
  • Defense of a major city hospital to successful resolution in birth injury case.

Professional Activities

Art is a director of the Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association and has been a frequent speaker at its annual meetings. He is an advocate in the American Board of Trial Advocates and a member and former board member of the Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel. He is also a Past Editor of the PA Negligence Digest and the PA Damages Digest.

In 2021, Art joined ADR Options as a member of its esteemed panel of neutrals. In this role, Art draws on his extensive legal experience to conduct mediations and arbitrations through ADR Options.
