U.S. lawmakers in 2022 included prevailing wage requirements in a tax and climate law, while state legislators addressed minimum and subminimum wages, salary transparency and gig worker classification.
Larger gig companies would likely find such policies beneficial, said Jason Reisman of management-side firm Blank Rome LLP.
Such a law "doesn't upend their model but gives them a balanced hybrid approach, where they could provide benefits of some sort, and they could stop everybody from suing them and challenging the foundation of what their structure is," Reisman said.
