Achilles will serve as a panelist for the Practicing Law Institute’s (“PLI”) <a href="https://www.pli.edu/programs/audit-committees-and-financial-reporting?t=live">Audit Committees, Special Committees, and Internal Investigations 2024</a> program, being held in New York, New York, on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Jennifer’s session, “Key Considerations at the Outset of an Audit Committee or Special Committee Investigation—The Board of Directors/Audit or Special Committee’s Perspective,” will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will use a real-world case study to summarize the best practices for Board members, audit committee members, and special committee members in evaluating and responding to issues that may trigger the need for an internal investigation. Topics include:

Identifying critical situations requiring internal investigations

Understanding the key considerations to evaluate when to use in-house counsel and when to retain independent outside counsel

Knowing when to retain other professionals, e.g., forensic accountants and others

Knowing the expectations of outside counsel and other professionals

Gaining insight on audit committee reporting

This program is designed to help professionals improve their understanding of the nuances of what is required of audit committees and special committees, and those who advise them. Presenters will delve into regulatory developments and the pressing legal ethics issues of the day, before taking a four-part approach into internal investigations.

Utilizing a real-world case study, attendees will be able to investigate and gain insight on how internal investigations are approached from multiple perspectives: the board of directors, the outside counsel, the forensic accountant, and the regulators and auditors. By studying the internal investigation from each perspective, the faculty will provide a well-rounded program on what professionals need to know when dealing with audit committees, special committees, and internal investigations.
