19th Amendment Centennial

While there is no required reading in advance of the Summit, we wanted to share a few 19th Amendment resources compiled by Blank Rome.

• 100 years after the 19th Amendment guaranteed women the right to vote in the United States, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge M. Margaret McKeown of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit discussed that watershed moment and the continued fight for equal rights for women that has followed.  
• In collaboration with the ABA Commission on the 19th Amendment, the Georgetown Law Journal recently published a special edition commemorating the centennial anniversary of the 19th Amendment. Articles in the publication address the 19th Amendment as it pertains to women’s rights, the intersectionality of gender and race, marriage equality, and voting rights.  
• A New York Times feature on “How Queer Women Powered the Suffrage Movement.”  
• A New York Times feature on black suffragists who recognized the power of photographs as a political tool and crafted images that became critical documents for insisting on racial equity and agency.  
• A CNN gallery of vintage photos showing unsung heroes of the U.S. suffrage movement.  
• A New York Times visual history of the suffragist movement.  
• Centennial Learning Center—A collection of articles, videos, biographies, lesson plans, fact sheets, and timelines from groups across the country.
