City of Philadelphia 2021 Real Estate Tax Appeal Deadline Rapidly Approaching

Real Estate

The deadline to file an appeal of 2021 Real Estate Tax Assessments in Philadelphia is Monday, October 5, 2020. Appeals may be filed by any property owner within the City of Philadelphia and are the sole method for a Philadelphia landowner to obtain a reduction of their 2021 real estate tax burden.

The impact of COVID-19 and its economic consequences have resulted in major disruption for property owners and tenants, particularly those whose properties are utilized for hotel, retail, or other commercial uses. Blank Rome is assisting a variety of clients with properties negatively affected by state-mandated closures, damage from civil unrest, and other diminutions in value due to COVID-19 and depressed economic activity.

Appeal volume is expected to be high for this unusual tax year. With the deadline to review, process, and file appeals rapidly approaching, we encourage our clients with real estate holdings in Philadelphia to contact the Real Estate team at Blank Rome for a review of their assessment and appeal options.
