BR Parents Q&A with Co-Chair Lauren B. Wilgus

Launched in March 2020, our BR Parents affinity group was developed to support our parents and caregivers striving to manage their professional and parental responsibilities. BR Parents provides a support system to exchange ideas and network among colleagues, share information pertinent to working parents, and promote innovation, as well as communicates to our firm's leadership the particular challenges that working parents confront so our firm can work together to implement an environment in which parents in any position at Blank Rome can have the opportunity to succeed.

Below is a Q&A with our BR Parents co-chair, Lauren Wilgus, where she discusses the importance of this new affinity group initiative, both personally and professionally, as well as shares her interests and reflections.

Q&A with Lauren B. Wilgus, BR Parents Co-Chair

Lauren Wilgus

Why is serving as an affinity group leader important to you?

Being a co-chair of BR Parents is so personally rewarding to me. I think it’s important to give our working parents a voice so they know they are valued. Every person’s situation is different, and I love serving as a sounding board for guidance and advice for other parents across our firm.

What skills and/or experience do you leverage to be an affinity group leader?

I leverage my personal experience as a young partner and mother of two boys to provide a safe and supportive space for parents to feel comfortable talking with me about the challenges they face navigating their professional and parental responsibilities.

What is your favorite weekend pastime?

Going to the beach or on a hike with my boys.

What is your favorite food?

If forced to pick a “favorite,” I would say ice cream because I can eat it all day, every day.

What quote inspires and uplifts you when times are hard?

“Always remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” — AA Milne

If you could meet one person, dead or alive, to talk to about everything going on in the world who would it be?

Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and other women who started the women’s suffrage movement and campaigned for equal rights for women. Without these women, I wouldn’t be a partner at Blank Rome today.
