Legal Tech's Predictions for the Regulation of AI and Technology in 2024

As soon at generative AI hit the public consciousness, the push to regulate it quickly followed. While there has been more proposed regulation than actual action to date, the regulation of AI is looking like it might follow the path of data privacy legislation, resulting in a patchwork of laws before more comprehensive, far-reaching legislation is enacted. Indeed, experts expect 2024 to be a big year for the regulation of technology, particularly AI.

Sharon Klein, Partner and Chair of the Privacy, Security & Data Protection Practice, Blank Rome: “Starting this December, 2023, public companies subject to the new SEC rules on cybersecurity must focus on controls to detect and mitigate cyber risk and increase communication of those risks across the enterprise. Otherwise, the company and its management will be subject to sanctions since cybersecurity failures are a business risk, not just an IT risk.”
