Navigating the Black Divorce

GSBA & MBBA’s Inaugural Family Law Symposium

Blank Rome Partner Morgan Fraser Mouchette and Associate Ernestine J. Mings will serve as speakers for the Garden State Bar Association (“GSBA”) and Metropolitan Black Bar Association’s (“MBBA”) Inaugural Family Law Symposium, being held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. EST, as an online event.

Morgan and Ernestine will speak in Session II, “Navigating the Black Divorce,” which will be presented from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in two segments .

Morgan’s segment, “Prenuptial Agreements & the Pre-filing Divorce Process,” will explore client expectations, proper intake practices, immigration considerations, and the filing process overview in New York and New Jersey. It will also touch on how to handle emergent family law issues that include temporary custody and support, TROs/FROs, mental health evaluations, and treatment/support services prior to divorce litigation.

Ernestine, who organized the Symposium as a Co-Chair of the Family Law Section of the MBBA, will speak at the second segment, “Post-Commencement and Pre-Trial Considerations.” This segment will explore best practices and key topics to consider after commencing the divorce action. Additionally, it will provide an overview of property settlements, custody agreements, and mediation as a means to resolving divorce actions.

The Symposium will open with a networking session and close with a keynote speech by Hon. Anne-Marie Jolly, Administrative Judge, New York City Family Court.
