Cannabis Lending: Structuring Deals and Mitigating Risk

American Cannabis Bankers Association Q2 Cannabis Bankers’ Quarterly Webinar Series

Online Webinar

Blank Rome partner Scott H. Moskol, who serves as co-chair of the firm’s Cannabis practice, will be an instructor for the American Cannabis Bankers Association Q2 Cannabis Bankers’ Quarterly Webinar Series program, “Cannabis Lending: Structuring Deals and Mitigating Risk,” being held Tuesday, May 7, 2024, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. EDT.

Momentum around cannabis legalization is not only reshaping legal frameworks but is also fostering a more informed and open conversation about the responsible and equitable regulation of this once-controversial substance. Today, two dozen states and the District of Columbia have legalized adult-use cannabis, creating unprecedented opportunities for bankers across the country to establish new customer relationships and develop new lines of business.

Designed for bankers already serving this industry, as well as those who are simply “canna-curious," this webinar will cover two important topics:

  • Cannabis Lending: As bankers think about where the next tranche of earning assets will come from, they should consider lending to the cannabis industry. The instructors will discuss considerations for lenders to ensure they’re structuring a good deal while understanding how to navigate state and federal laws in the event of business failure.
  • Cannabis Rescheduling: Rescheduling of cannabis from a Schedule I to Schedule III controlled substance would be the biggest change in federal drug policy in 70 years. It also opens many questions related to the taxation and regulation of cannabis businesses. The instructors will explore these issues and how they could impact banking in this industry.
