Blank Rome LLP is pleased to share that Richard J. Miller, Jr., a partner in Blank Rome’s Tax, Benefits, and Private Clients practice, has been appointed to serve as Walk Chair of the American Liver Foundation's ("ALF") New York City Liver Life Walk on June 11, 2022. The Liver Life Walk is a signature event of ALF, which "allows people affected by liver disease to come together to raise awareness and funds. It also gives them the opportunity to support each other in a festive and inspiring environment."

Rich's support, volunteer efforts, and passion for ALF stem from his recent journey with Non-Alcoholic Liver Disease ("NASH"). Rich was diagnosed with NASH in August 2019 and, in December 2020, underwent treatment to remove a cancerous tumor in his liver, consequently requiring an immediate need for a transplant. On May 31, 2021, Rich received the gift of life through liver transplant surgery. During this time, Rich continued to work and provide services to his clients, carried on responsibilities on several boards, including the Metropolitan Opera Guild, and helped to create a virtual pre-transplant support group, which continues to meet weekly to provide support and hope for those of afflicted with liver disease.

“I am truly humbled to serve as Walk Chair of the New York City Liver Life Walk this year, in honor of my organ donor and all the organ donors, volunteers, ALF, and healthcare professionals who make an impactful, meaningful difference in the lives of millions of Americas living with liver disease,” said Rich. “I am grateful for my medical team, family, friends, and colleagues for providing unending support, prayers, and hope during my journey with NASH.”

ALF was founded in 1976 with the mission to "promote education, advocacy, support services, and research for the prevention, treatment, and cure of liver disease." ALF provides valuable resources to liver patients and their families with the funds raised through the Liver Life Walk. Blank Rome is honored to continue to support Rich throughout his journey and as Walk Chair of this important event.

Along with serving as Walk Chair of the ALF New York City Liver Life Walk, Richard is also a participant in the Transplant Games of America in San Diego from July 29-August 3, 2022. The week-long event occurs every two years to give transplant recipients "the chance to show the world that having a transplant is a second chance at a full, productive, and inspiring life as well as display to their donor families what their gift means to them."

Richard is a finalist in the Lyrics for Life competition and a participant in the singles golf tournament.
