2024 Diversity in Business: Blank Rome

Blank Rome was recently recognized as an Outstanding Diverse Organization as part of the Houston Business Journal's 2024 Diversity in Business Awards. The honor recognizes organizations that have “contributed to harnessing diversity within their workforces and actively taken the lead to promote and champion diversity within the community or their industries.”

Below is an excerpt of the firm's honoree Q&A profile, featuring partner and Houston office co-chair Susan L. Bickley, as published in the Houston Business Journal.

What are some of the outcomes of this company's initiatives toward promoting diversity?

Enhancing our onboarding process has led to culturally competent practices embedded from the outset of our recruitment, retention, and advancement approaches. We have increased our LGBTQ+ and women attorney population at the firm. Our annual women's Leadership Summit has also been incredibly successful, creating business opportunities and sustainable value for the women attorneys at Blank Rome. The resulting success of this program allowed us to launch a new program, our BR Advance Women of Color Leadership, to specifically connect our women attorneys of color. Equipping them with tools, resources, and connections to continue to improve their legal skills, business development abilities, and overall experiences at the firm. Our achievement of 100 percent retention rate for our Diversity Scholars Program has broadened the scope of recruitment efforts and displayed that an invest in DEI, and in diverse talent, is a worthwhile and invaluable focus for the firm and our firm culture.
