Mechanics of Safety: Updates on the Regulatory Elements of Safety

Blank Rome maritime attorney William R. Bennett III will serve as a speaker for the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (“NAMEPA”) 2023 Safety at Sea Seminar and AMVER Awards, being held Thursday, May 18, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the American Geophysical Union (“AGU”) Conference Center in Washington, D.C.

Bill will present “Updates on the Regulatory Elements of Safety” as part of the “Mechanics of Safety” session, which takes place from 1:55 to 3:00 p.m.

In addition to Bill’s segment, “Mechanics of Safety” will include presentations on safety and decarbonization by Richard Delpizzo, Director of Global Government Services, ABS, and the importance of a safety culture by Cynthia Hudson, CEO HudsonAnalytix. The session will be moderated by Ole Christian Schroder, Director Environmental Compliance, Scorpio Group.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

As the acceleration of change in shipping progresses, attendees will hear from the United States Coast Guard (“USCG”) as to what safety issues are of greatest concern to them and learn about the safety properties of fuels being examined to support decarbonization efforts, reducing risks of new operational practices, and strategies for improving the lives of mariners at sea.

Vice Commandant Steven Poulin of the USCG will also be presenting the AMVER Awards for industry voluntarism and commitment to Safety at Sea.
