AIRA 39th Annual Bankruptcy & Restructuring Conference (AC23)

Blank Rome partner Ira L. Herman will serve as a panelist for three sessions at the Association of Insolvency & Restructuring Advisors’ (“AIRA”) 39th Annual Bankruptcy & Restructuring Conference (AC23), being held June 7 through 10, 2023, in Newport Beach, California.

Ira’s first two sessions, “Fielding the ‘First Call’” and “Negotiation Skills in a Distressed Situation,” will take place on June 7, as part of The Financial Advisors’ Toolbox pre-conference program. Other Toolbox sessions include:

• Subchapter V Financial Plan Requirements and Best Practices
• Healthcare Restructuring and Bankruptcies
• Isolating Bad Debt
• Presenting Financial Information in Chapter 11

Ira will also speak on the “Emerging Issues in Attorney Discipline: Disciplining Politically-Motivated Attorney Misconduct and Discharging State Bar Sanctions” panel at 10:00 a.m. on June 10.

ABOUT THE SESSION

This ethics panel will address two critical topics.

1. State Bar disciplinary actions against attorneys for communicating demonstrably false and misleading statements for politically motivated purposes to courts, lawmakers, and the public at large in their capacity as lawyers.
2. Issues that arise if a disciplined attorney should seek to discharge State Bar-ordered amounts owed for sanctions and reimbursement of State operated Client Protection Funds.

Ira will be joined on this panel by Hon. Paul M. Black (U.S. Bankruptcy Court, W.D. Va.), Prof. James E. Moliterno (Washington and Lee University School of Law), Ashley M. Teesdale (Ringstad & Sanders, LLP), Michael von Loewenfeldt (Wagstaffe, von Loewenfeldt, Busch & Radwich LLP), and Hon. Scott C. Clarkson (U.S. Bankruptcy Court, C.D. Cal.) as moderator.
