The market for talent remains tight, and strong mentoring programs are one tool that can give companies an edge. But many businesses are missing the boat.
That’s according to a new national survey by The Business Journals, which surveyed hundreds of individuals about mentorship, career development and other topics.

Krystal Studavent Ramsey, the Houston-based director of diversity and inclusion at Blank Rome, said mentees need to be proactive.
She said it’s also important to be intentional about what you’re looking for in a mentor, whether that’s to learn more about an industry, field or workplace, or if guidance is needed in how to juggle parenthood and having a career.
“Mentors can be found in many different places,” Studavent Ramsey said. “Know that some mentors are there for a season and some for a lifetime. All bring something different and beneficial to your life that you can build on over time.”
