Where We Are Today: Regulatory Challenges in a Disrupted World

NAMEPA - Marine Operations Virtual Seminar: Marine Operations in a Disrupted World

Virtual Seminar

Blank Rome Maritime’s Dana S. Merkel will speak on “Regulatory Challenges in a Disrupted World” for the “Where We Are Today” panel, as part of the North American Marine Environment Protection Association’s (“NAMEPA”) Marine Operations Virtual Seminar: Marine Operations in a Disrupted World, which will be held from 1:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, February 25, 2021.

Dana’s “Where We Are Today” panel commences at 1:30 p.m. EST and will be led by Niels Aalund, Senior Vice President, Maritime Affairs, WGMA, and will also include the following topics and speakers:

  • RDML Richard Timme, USCG, Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy, “Impact of a New Administration on the Coast Guard”
  • Cynthia Hudson, CEO HudsonAnalytix, “IMO2021 and Other Cyber Challenges”

NAMEPA’s virtual one-day seminar will focus on the current state of the marine industry, which is being pummeled by the pandemic and reacting to a public that is focused on enacting regulations to mitigate environmental impacts—while still pursuing an elusive profit. These converging factors are all occurring within a global framework that is changing by the moment, while also providing new opportunities and risks in a “disrupted” world. The seminar will discuss how and why the marine industry needs to come together to collaborate on the pathway forward; lean into identifying solutions that will serve the industry in the short-, medium-, and long-term; and open up to new alliances and new perspectives in order to effect positive change.
