Biography
Emily S. Childress concentrates her practice on federal energy regulatory matters and related litigation. She represents clients in the natural gas, power, and oil industries in matters primarily involving the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”) and the Department of Energy (“DOE”).
Emily has experience representing interstate natural gas pipeline shippers in rate case proceedings before FERC. She also represents clients in the certification of natural gas facilities, including liquefied natural gas (“LNG”) terminals, by FERC and in related LNG export authorization and compliance filings with the DOE. In connection with FERC proceedings, Emily has assisted clients in appellate litigation before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
Prior to joining the firm, Emily served as an associate attorney at a Kentucky-based firm, where she represented natural gas, electric, and water utility companies before state public utility regulatory agencies to accomplish cost-based rate increases in rate case proceedings, obtain certificates of public convenience and necessity to construct utility infrastructure, receive approvals for requests regarding financing and regulatory accounting treatment, revise tariff provisions, and respond to investigations regarding compliance with state statutes and regulations.
During law school, Emily served as a legal extern for a Cincinnati-based non-profit real estate development and finance organization and a judicial extern to the Honorable Candace J. Smith at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. She was also an executive board member of the University of Cincinnati Law Review.
