Importers are inching closer to receiving tariff refunds this week as companies begin to work through the government’s newly launched system.
It enables companies to formally request their piece of the $166 billion in collected duties invalidated by the Supreme Court. Still, the Trump administration warns it may be weeks before funds change hands.
Though some have experienced glitches, importers and their lawyers say the new system is functioning.

Eric Parnes, a partner at Blank Rome who specializes in trade issues, said it went “smoothly” for his first client who went through the process.
“Whether that will be the case as everyone rushes to use the system, I think, is an open question,” Parnes said, adding that “it does seem to be working” with what little has happened so far.

As trade lawyers and importers generally have been able to use the system without fail, some have reported problems accessing their account or other glitches.
“There are lots of stories and hiccups that you hear about along those lines, but for most importers, I think that process should be straightforward,” said Parnes.
