A Blank Rome trial team secured a significant victory for landlord RAMCO Healthcare Holdings LLC (“RAMCO Holdings”) following a full-day evidentiary hearing in Chicago, securing the appointment of a special master and an expedited accounting of funds allegedly diverted from two shuttered Chicagoland hospitals.

RAMCO Holdings alleges that its two tenant hospitals—Weiss Memorial Hospital and West Suburban Medical Center—diverted up to $36 million in state-issued funds and then abruptly closed both facilities, leaving thousands of underserved residents without adequate medical care. At the conclusion of the hearing, a special master was appointed to evaluate fund transfers from the hospitals and ordered an expedited accounting of all diverted funds.

RAMCO Holdings is now working with hospital employees, state officials, and regulatory authorities on a path to reopening the hospitals, with the assistance of Blank Rome. The case has received widespread media attention.
