Michael L. Cioffi is a partner at the international law firm of Blank Rome LLP where he manages the Firm’s Cincinnati office. Over a 32-year career, his areas of professional experience include general litigation with an emphasis on commercial litigation and environmental law, as well as all methods of alternative dispute resolution. Prior to joining Blank Rome, Mr. Cioffi served as litigation counsel and assistant general counsel of the American Financial Group, and as a former litigation partner of a Cincinnati-based law firm.
Mr. Cioffi began his legal career as an assistant attorney general for the State of Ohio where his primary duty was to represent the state in civil litigation pending in state and federal courts. Mr. Cioffi graduated, magna cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame in 1975. He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, School of Law, where he was the first recipient of the Judge John W. Peck Award, which is given annually to the best trial practice student.

Since 1983, Mr. Cioffi has been an adjunct professor of law at the University of Cincinnati, College of Law, where he teaches Pretrial Litigation, Trial Practice, Evidence, and The Law in Literature and Philosophy. Mr. Cioffi has received the Goldman Prize for Teaching Excellence at the University of Cincinnati, the Adjunct Faculty Teaching Excellence Award, and the Nicholas Longworth Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Law.
Mr. Cioffi is co-founder and trustee of The Justice Institute for the Legal Profession, a Section 501(c)(3) corporation whose mission is to provide educational programs based on the humanities for lawyers and judges in the United States and Europe. In his capacity as a law professor and faculty member of The Justice Institute, Mr. Cioffi has taught hundreds of programs and seminars, including lectures for such distinguished groups as all of the chief justices for the individual states of the United States, the American Judicature Society, and many other groups of federal and state court judges.
COMMUNITY SERVICE & AFFILIATIONS
Mr. Cioffi serves as a member of the board of trustees for the Cincinnati Opera, and also serves on the board of visitors and the campaign committee for the University of Cincinnati. He is a strong supporter and active in a variety of civic charities and foundations throughout the region, including the UC Foundation Law School Building Project, YWCA Career Women of Achievement, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Tender Mercies, Inc., Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati Art Museum, and The Chiquita Classic, a fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
