The Life Starts and Changes: Shipbuilding and Refit Contracts

AIJA Transport Law Seminar

Athens, Greece

Blank Rome Maritime attorney Lauren B. Wilgus will serve as a panelist at the International Association of Young Lawyers’ (“AIJA”) Transport Law Seminar, taking place September 14 through 16, 2023, in Athens, Greece.

ABOUT THE SEMINAR

The Transport seminar will discuss all aspects of a ship’s life cycle, from sale and shipbuilding to its use as a transport mode. Piraeus, Greece’s main port, is home not only to over 600 ship management companies managing from one to two vessels to up to very large fleets with more than 25 vessels, but also to several shipping service providers such as financial institutions, insurance companies, accounting firms, law firms etc. The country’s strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa makes it a vital hub for international trade, transport, and shipping and thus a great place to hold a transport seminar. The discussion will also take into consideration climate change, the new focus on sustainability, and the digital transformation.

Lauren’s session, “The Life Starts and Changes: Shipbuilding and Refit Contracts,” will take place on Friday, September 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

SESSION DESCRIPTION

In this session, the panelists will share with the audience their views on the issues of manufacture, repair, maintenance, or refurbishment of ships, under both shipyards and Owners’ perspectives, with a look at the possible conflicts arising out of the non-performance of the contract.

Blank Rome Maritime is pleased to be a Gold Sponsor of the program.
