Shaun J. Bockert


Shaun Bockert focuses on intellectual property and technology matters in a variety of industries, with a special focus on software and technology transactions, copyright in the context of software and new media, digital advertising and marketing, and data aggregation and privacy issues. Shaun works closely with clients on:

  • Intellectual Property and Technology Transactions—including software, copyright, patent, trademark, and technology licenses; development agreements; data integration projects; hosting agreements; and cloud-based services (“SaaS”) agreements
  • Data Management and Privacy Concerns—including issues related to data collection, data supply, and security and privacy rules and regulations
  • Mergers, Acquisitions, and Divestitures—including the acquisition and sale of intellectual property, software, technology, and other intangible assets
  • Publishing and Marketing Campaigns—including publishing agreements; music and other media licenses; online sweepstakes, contests, and other promotions; and marketing programs and policies.

Before joining Blank Rome, Shaun was a fellow in the intellectual property division of the Philadelphia Law Department.

  • Drafted license agreement for prominent global apparel, footwear, and accessories business.
  • A multinational network security provider, in the sale of a prominent security platform.
  • Drafted and negotiated a license agreement with a global manufacturer involving patents and other intellectual property in the field of nanotechnology.
  • A multinational software and consumer electronics company, advised on potential licensing and acquisition terms with third party products and platforms.
  • A large enterprise software provider, advised on the treatment of cloud services (“SaaS”) under the Copyright Act to assist with determining the appropriate tax treatment of various types of cloud services
  • A large aftermarket auto parts supplier, representation before the U.S. Copyright Office at a public roundtable on the application of copyright law in the context of software-enabled consumer products.
