Blank Rome LLP is pleased to announce that the firm received the Pro Bono Counsel Award at the National Homelessness Law Center’s 2024 Human Right to Housing Awards.
The annual Human Right to Housing Awards event honors organizations, leaders, and changemakers who work to bring awareness to and advance the solutions to homelessness and poverty. These awards pay tribute to Stewart B. McKinney and Bruce F. Vento, two outstanding national leaders in the movement to end homelessness.
Blank Rome was recognized for our attorneys’ work preparing two amicus briefs for the United States Supreme Court case, Johnson v. Grants Pass. One brief was submitted on behalf of several Native American organizations, and the other on behalf of certain members of Congress. The case challenged a City Ordinance that criminalized sleeping in public spaces with any form of protection, such as a blanket, when applied to unhoused individuals who have no access to shelter.
The Blank Rome team included Deborah Greenspan, Adam Proujansky, Fredric M. Brooks, Tyler K. Buchholz, Spencer C. Ebach, Susan Kuruvilla, Benjamin R. Reyes, Jacinda D. Rivas, Robert M. Shinehouse, and Shiven G. Shah.
The awards ceremony took place on Monday, November 18, 2024, at the Microsoft Innovation and Policy Center in Washington, D.C. Blank Rome was a proud sponsor of the event.
