About Alan Feigenbaum's work with TVC, as published in TVC's September 2023 Newsletter

When Alan Feigenbaum joined Blank Rome in 2020, he quickly learned that pro bono work was not only encouraged at the firm, it is expected. Long-standing TVC mission partners and volunteers, Kathy Ochroch, Director of Pro Bono and Community Impact, and Pro Bono Attorney Krystal Kane, briefed him on pro bono opportunities at TVC and he decided to take our Discharge Upgrade (“DU”) training. Since then, Alan has taken six discharge upgrade cases.

TVC’s DU Program helps some of the most vulnerable veterans, who struggle with mental health issues and trauma. Alan feels compelled to help these veterans because of the deep and tragic losses he experienced in his own life. He takes on our toughest cases with compassion and a deep commitment. Veterans often have a difficult time recounting their experiences and reliving the trauma when submitting applications for an upgrade. Alan is a very empathetic communicator who reassures our clients, calmly walking them through the process and making sure they are comfortable with everything that’s being submitted on their behalf.

“Our Veterans want to know that their service mattered and their self-worth is not erased because of a mistake made while battling a mental health condition. I want to do whatever I can to make sure our Vets know how much they mean to us all. They know with exacting clarity what is important in life and what is not, and we as civilians can learn from them. I'm here to help them, as a lawyer, counselor, and friend.”

Alan was also recently selected to be the recipient of our inaugural TVC DAV Charitable Service Trust Award to be presented at our Pro Bono Mission Partner Awards Ceremony on November 15 in Washington, DC. He was the clear choice for this honor because of his excellent work, compassion, and his ability to earn the trust of his clients.

Alan is an experienced matrimonial and family law attorney at Blank Rome and assists a diverse range of clients with a focus on evaluating the optimal strategies to manage and resolve complex financial and custody disputes. He brings his experienced and forward-looking approach to his discharge upgrade cases with very successful outcomes.

“Alan is certainly a volunteer inspiring pro bono and an inspiration to me and my team. He is not afraid to take challenging cases and excels with client contact. I cannot say enough good things about him—we are so lucky to have him as a volunteer. He is the best of the best!” said Christie Bhageloe, Director of the TVC Discharge Upgrade Program.
