A Journey through Our Curiosity about AI: An Interview with David Perry and Maysa Razavi

INTA Bulletin

INTA will host its annual New York Conference, entitled The Business of Artificial Intelligence: Practical Applications in the IP Ecosystem, March 20–21, in lower Manhattan. The two-day event aims to help registrants gain a comprehensive understanding of the intersection between artificial intelligence (AI) and intellectual property (IP) rights and brand management. Industry experts, thought leaders, legal professionals, and business executives will gather in the Big Apple to explore the profound impact of AI on IP rights, the practical applications, and what brand professionals need to know to navigate the challenges and opportunities this emerging technology presents.

The Conference’s co-chairs are David Perry, co-chair of Intellectual Property & Technology at Blank Rome LLP, and Maysa Razavi, director of Global Brand Protection and Supply Chain Security at Moderna, both based in the United States. Along with their colleagues on the Business of AI Project Team, they sought to design a conference that would appeal as much to AI skeptics as it would to early adopters and enthusiasts.

Mr. Perry and Ms. Razavi sat down with the INTA Bulletin to provide a preview of the Conference and share their thoughts on how AI is already impacting the work of brand professionals and how AI compares with previous disruptive innovations.

How does AI factor into your everyday work, and how has its significance evolved over the years?

David Perry: For many law firms, we’re at the birth of AI in terms of everyday work. There are tools that we are used to seeing, like predictive wording, but when it comes to integrating AI tools with respect to litigation, electronic discovery, reviewing, and using data to predict case results, the truth is, I don’t think it’s penetrated our day to day yet. The Conference will recognize that this is where a lot of us currently sit. It’s designed to ensure that registrants will walk away with a comfort level to embrace these tools because they’re increasingly being presented to us in the workplace.
