Athens Hosts WISTA Conference

Jeanne M. Grasso, partner in Blank Rome's maritime group, was recently mentioned in the September 21, 2010 Lloyd's List article "Athens Hosts WISTA Conference," by Nigel Lowry.  Full text below.

It is 36 years since the first stirrings of what is nowadays known as the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA).

Next week sees, astonishingly, the 30th International WISTA Conference, this year held in Athens, home of one of the international body’s strongest chapters.

Lloyd’s List is pleased to be a media supporter of the September 29 to October 1 event, which looks set to attract more than 300 delegates, booked already from more than 25 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, and America.

Those descending on the Divani Apollon Palace hotel and spa in the seaside suburb of Vouliagmeni can look forward to a packed program of discussion and social events, with the main conference organized around the theme of achieving sustainability within the shipping industry.

IMO secretary-general Efthimios Mitropoulos will be on hand to deliver a keynote address celebrating the role of seafarers, heading a list of more than 50 international speakers and panelists who will look at sustainability in sessions covering regulation, safety, finance, environment, and the industry’s social profile.

Among headlining shipping women such as Angeliki Frangou, Elisabeth Grieg and Jeanne Grasso on the program, we are glad to see that there is a lot of chaps also taking part.
