The Power of Women Helping Women

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

On March 8, people around the globe will celebrate women’s rights. International Women’s Day honors all that women have achieved, while setting sights on all that’s left to accomplish. When women put their minds together, there is nothing they can’t do.

While International Women’s Day is an admirable time to recognize women, the need to empower and support females exists every day. Right now and right here, thousands of women — mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters — are struggling financially because of an unexpected crisis, whether it’s unemployment, divorce, the death of a spouse or a difficult health diagnosis.

As women, we should champion for one another at every opportunity and lift each other up when we need it most. By doing so, we can create incredible changes in our community.

United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s Women’s Leadership Council is a strong example of what women can achieve together. Through WLC’s United for Women initiative, nearly 10,000 women have received short-term financial assistance to avoid a crisis.

When women come together to support, uplift and inspire one another, it’s a sight to see. To learn more, visit uwswpa.org/womens-leadership-council-wlc.

Women helping women is what makes our world a much better place.
