Biography
Lucas (“Luke”) A. Peterson focuses his practice on patent prosecution, portfolio development, and intellectual property strategies across a wide range of advanced technologies. He has experience preparing and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications, conducting patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses, and supporting IP litigation involving trademarks, copyrights, and design patents.
Luke counsels clients working in complex technical domains, including software, control systems, artificial intelligence and machine learning, semiconductor manufacturing and devices, aerospace, mechanical devices and systems, communication systems, and embedded systems. He interviews inventors, extracting inventive concepts, drafts applications, and responds to office actions while communicating with inventors and outside counsel. He has also conducted international patent filings, including coordinating with foreign counsel on foreign filing licenses and prosecuting PCT applications.
Prior to joining the firm, Luke practiced with the intellectual property groups at two intellectual property and patent firms practicing patent prosecution and anti-counterfeiting litigation. He also previously worked as a software engineer developing software for aircraft flight simulators, an embedded controls engineer tailored towards aerospace and automotive applications, and an electric vehicle control systems engineer developing software for an electric vehicle propulsion platform.
While in law school, Luke authored “The 30-Year Dissent: An Analysis of Judge Newman’s Dissent in In re Wands as Applied to Unpredictable Arts,” Ipls Proceedings, Volume 33, Issue 2, 2022, focusing on enablement issues.
