Jared N. Klein

Biography

Jared focuses his practice on representing businesses and individuals in real estate, zoning and land use, commercial, and business litigation matters. He utilizes his depth of real estate experience and creative problem-solving skills to serve as general counsel to several development and holding companies, providing a full range of license, permitting, and general business counseling.

He has over a decade of experience notably representing some of Philadelphia’s leading educational institutions, businesses, and individuals. He regularly appears before the City of Philadelphia Zoning Board of Adjustment to assist real estate developers in obtaining zoning variances for their projects, and is general counsel to several real estate developers in the Philadelphia region, assisting with their contract, zoning, employment, and general business needs.

In addition to his real estate practice, Jared handles a wide variety of business and appellate litigation and has successfully litigated three cases that established binding precedent throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. 

Outside the Firm

Jared resides in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, with his wife Kelly and son Samuel.

Experience

  • In a case before the City of Philadelphia Zoning Board of Adjustment, succeeded in establishing that the developer’s first opportunity to challenge the standing of the objector before the board was when the objector took the appeal to trial court, rather than when the objector appeared before the board.
  • In a case before the City of Philadelphia Zoning Board of Adjustment, succeeded in upholding the constitutionality of Philadelphia’s zoning code provision defining “family.”
  • Represented appellees in a case of first impression before the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, on whether separate actions by a husband and wife, in which each agreed to personally guarantee a bank loan, and that resulted in separate judgments against the husband and wife, were insufficient to establish a joint debt that could have served as the basis for a lien on the husband and wife's entireties property.

Professional Activities

Jared previously served as president (2016–2017) and vice president and zoning chair (2013–2015) of the Passyunk Square Civic Association. He also served as a board and executive committee member for the Center City Residents’ Association as well as a member of the Government Affairs Committee of the Jewish Federation of Philadelphia.
