Biography

Jane Barrett provides strategic advice to clients confronted by government investigations, whistleblower allegations, and other legal crises. Clients benefit from the varied perspectives Jane has gained throughout her career serving as a regulatory agency attorney, a state and federal prosecutor, a law professor, and as a white collar defense counsel. She understands competing corporate and government interests and expectations. Jane conducts complex and multi-layered internal investigations and represents clients in federal and state enforcement cases involving:

  • environmental and worker safety violations
  • government contract  fraud
  • regulatory program fraud
  • securities fraud
Outside the Firm

Jane is on the Board of her community association and volunteers with other community organizations including Sumner Hall in Chestertown, Maryland. She enjoys kayaking, bicycling, gardening, and travel.

Experience

  • Maritime clients, in connection with civil and criminal enforcement of the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 and the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships.
  • Senior executive of a food service company, in federal prosecution of securities fraud and Sarbanes-Oxley violations.
  • A multinational chemical company, represented and conducted internal investigation of multiple facilities for Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and Clean Air Act violations.
  • A defense contracting firm, under investigation for false statements and false claims.
  • An oil and gas pipeline company, in connection with alleged civil and criminal violations of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act and the Hazardous Liquid Pipeline Act.
