James H. Adkins


James concentrates his practice in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and general transactional matters.

Prior to joining Blank Rome, James practiced at a national law firm and most recently served as associate general counsel of a regional healthcare system. James has experience advising clients in the negotiation, documentation, and execution of various corporate transactions and regularly counsels clients on entity formation and corporate governance matters.

Outside the Firm

James enjoys exercising, golfing, and fly-fishing.


  • Represented a commercial bank in the issuance of a $50M credit facility to a healthcare conglomerate.
  • Represented a private equity group in a two-part transaction that included a $25M equity investment and a $100M credit facility.
  • Represented a purchaser in the acquisition of a $25M decommissioned production facility from a publicly traded company.
  • Represented a natural resource company in an internal reorganization and placement of a $90M credit facility.
  • Represented a commercial bank in the issuance of a $20M credit facility to finance the acquisition of commercial real estate.
  • Represented a buyer in the acquisition of assets of a Chapter 11 debtor-in-possession for total consideration in excess of $50M.
  • Represented a publicly traded borrower in connection with maintenance to its $500M ABL credit facility, necessary as part of an asset disposition.
  • Represented a healthcare system in the acquisition of multiple physician practices and regularly counseled clients on Physician Self-Referral Law (Stark Law), Anti-Kickback Statute, fraud and abuse, and other regulatory schemes in connection with such transactions.


Professional Activities

James serves as a volunteer for Legal Aid and as a civic engagement/community building task group member for The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation.
