Biography
Edward E. Smith (“Ed”) guides clients through a wide range of general litigation matters.
Ed has extensive appellate experience. He has briefed and argued many matters before New York’s intermediate appellate courts and the New York Court of Appeals.
Prior to joining the firm, Ed served as senior law clerk to the Honorable Jenny Rivera at the New York Court of Appeals—New York’s highest Court— and a law clerk with the Staff Attorney’s Office at the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Before his clerkships, Ed worked as Appellate Counsel and, later, Bureau Chief of the Appeals Bureau at the Legal Aid Society of Suffolk County.
Ed graduated with honors from The George Washington University Law School, where he was an active member of the GW Law Moot Court Board and a member of The George Washington University Journal of Energy and Environmental Law.
Outside the Firm
Ed enjoys spending his spare time with his wife, other family, and friends. He also enjoys reading, playing the piano and guitar, and indulging his endless fascination with extreme weather.
Affiliations
Ed has taught CLE courses covering various topics in criminal law and procedure, evidence, and appellate practice. He also previously co-chaired the Appellate Courts Committee of the New York County Lawyers Association.
