Alen H. Hsu


Alen Hsu concentrates his practice in the areas of real estate, employment, business, and general commercial disputes. Alen’s practice is devoted to advising domestic and foreign businesses on complex legal and business matters. He has served as counsel on a number of multimillion dollar litigation and class action matters in state court and federal court, and he has experience handling arbitrations, trials, and appeals. His experience is bolstered by his demonstrated ability to aggressively litigate cases while simultaneously developing creative and cost-effective settlement solutions to complex problems on behalf of the firm's clients.

Alen maintains an active and diverse litigation practice involving:

  • real estate disputes, landlord tenant, and construction defects
  • wills, trust and estates litigation
  • trade secret, non-compete, and business and employment litigation
  • class action defense
  • financial institution and bankruptcy litigation
  • American with Disabilities Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Fair Debt Collections Practice Act, False Claims Act, Sherman Act/Antitrust matters, Telephone Consumer Protection Act

Alen also regularly drafts and counsels his clients on business matters involving:

  • corporate formation and governance documents
  • employment contracts including non-compete and nondisclosure agreements
  • contracts for the sale and purchase of a business 
  • lease agreements

Alen obtained a bachelor’s of science in business management from the University of Florida. While at the University of Florida, Alen completed a study abroad program on Elizabethan England and William Shakespeare at Cambridge University, England. Alen received his law degree from Nova Southeastern University.

Alen is proficient in spoken Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese.


  • Represented and provided strategic guidance to Chinese Investors on their real estate investments in the United States.
  • Negotiated and drafted employment agreements, purchase and sale agreements, and commercial lease agreements.
  • Obtained a judgment for ejectment and a jury verdict of $70,000 on counterclaims of fraud and breach of contract for $3.2 million after a seven day jury trial.
  • Obtained a final judgment of dissolution and a dismissal of counterclaims in a corporate dissolution action under the Florida Corporation Act after a five-day bench trial.
  • Obtained an order denying motion for temporary injunction in an breach of non-compete action and a dismissal of the lawsuit and an award of attorneys’ fees and costs.
  • Successfully negotiated a settlement for $110,000 on behalf of a landlord in a commercial landlord tenant action for accelerated rent against the tenant and tenant’s individual officers and directors.
  • Obtained an order denying a motion for temporary injunction and a dismissal of ?aa breach of contract against a successful bidder of an airplane at an online auction.
  • Obtained an early dismissal after successful motion to dismiss complaint under the False Claims Act.
  • Obtained a PCA on several appeals in Florida’s Second, Fourth, and Fifth District Court of Appeals, and obtained a reversal of a trial court’s final judgment in Fed. Home Loan Mortg. Corp. v. Beekman, 174 So. 3d 472 (Fla. 4th DCA 2015), reh'g denied (Sept. 30, 2015) and in VMD Fin. Services, Inc. v. CB Loan Purchase Associates, LLC, 68 So. 3d 997 (Fla. 4th DCA 2011).
  • Obtained early dismissal of two class action lawsuits in the Middle District of Florida and two class actions in the Southern District after successful motions to dismiss putative class actions involving FDCPA and common law claims.

Professional Activities

Alen received the 2016 Legal Advisor of the Year Award in recognition of his leadership in the local and legal community, and for his strategic counseling of startup companies and small to mid-sized businesses. In 2016, he was also selected to join Class IV of The Florida Bar Wm. Reece Smith, Jr. Leadership Academy, for the 2016–2017 term. In March 2017, Alen was selected by the Florida Bar to serve a three-year term on the committee of The Florida Bar Journal and The Florida Bar News editorial board. Additionally, he was selected to serve on the Executive Committee of the Editorial Board for The Florida Bar Journal for the 2018–2019 term.

Alen currently serves as the Alternate Southeast Regional Governor of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and on the Board of Supervisory of the North Springs Improvement District. He is also Past President of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of South Florida.
