Alen H. Hsu


Alen Hsu concentrates his practice in the areas of real estate, employment, business, and general commercial disputes. Alen’s practice is devoted to advising domestic and foreign businesses on complex legal and business matters. He has served as counsel on a number of multimillion dollar litigation matters in state court and federal court, and has experience handling arbitrations, trials, and appeals.

Alen obtained a bachelor’s of science in business management from the University of Florida. While at the University of Florida, Alen completed a study abroad program on Elizabethan England and William Shakespeare at Cambridge University, England. Alen received his law degree from Nova Southeastern University.

Alen is proficient in spoken Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese.


    • Chinese investors, represented and provided strategic guidance in their real estate investments in the United States.
    • Multiple restaurants and international businesses, in negotiating and drafting employment agreements, purchase and sale agreements, and commercial lease agreements.
    • The owner of a roofing company, in an ejectment action and against counterclaims of fraud and breach of contract for $3.2 million, and successfully obtained a judgment for ejectment and a jury verdict of $70,000 on the counterclaims after a seven day jury trial.
    • The co-owner of an international energy drink company, seeking dissolution of the business, and successfully obtained a final judgment of dissolution after a five-day bench trial.
    • A doctor, against a medical practice group’s claim for breach of a non-compete agreement, and successfully defeated a motion for injunctive relief and obtained a dismissal of the lawsuit and an award of attorneys’ fees and costs.
    • A commercial property manager, against the tenant and tenant’s individual officers and directors for accelerated rent, and successfully negotiated a settlement for $110,000.
    • An aviation company, against a successful bidder of an airplane at an online auction in a breach of contract and temporary injunction action, and successfully defeated the motion for temporary injunction and obtained a dismissal of the lawsuit.
    • A large financial institution, against a borrower’s False Claims Act claim, and successfully obtained a dismissal of the lawsuit.
    • Multiple financial institutions, represented and successfully defended on appeal in Florida’s Second, Fourth, and Fifth District Court of Appeals, including a reversal of a trial court’s final judgment in Fed. Home Loan Mortg. Corp. v. Beekman, 174 So. 3d 472 (Fla. 4th DCA 2015), reh'g denied (Sept. 30, 2015).

    Professional Activities

    Alen received the 2016 Legal Advisor of the Year Award in recognition of his leadership in the local and legal community, and for his strategic counseling of startup companies and small to mid-sized businesses. In 2016, he was selected to join Class IV of The Florida Bar Wm. Reece Smith, Jr. Leadership Academy, for the 2016-2017 term. In March 2017, Alen was selected by the Florida Bar to serve a three-year term on the committee of The Florida Bar Journal and The Florida Bar News editorial board. Alen currently serves as the Alternate Southeast Regional Governor of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and on the Board of Supervisory of the North Springs Improvement District. He is also Past President of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of South Florida.
