Amy Joseph Coles, who serves as co-chair of the firm's Pittsburgh office, has been named a 2025 Woman of Influence by the Pittsburgh Business Times.

Partner and co-chair of Pittsburgh office, Blank Rome LLP

For 10 years now Amy Coles has served as partner and co-chair of Blank Rome LLP’s Pittsburgh office, which she helped start. The downtown-based firm has grown to a team of 21 attorneys and 10 professional staff. Coles’ practice has largely been in the areas of general commercial litigation, complex civil litigation, construction litigation and class action defense. In her practice, she has represented banks, financial services providers, health care corporations and pharmaceutical companies in both state and federal cases. In the same time period that she has been helping to build Blank Rome’s local office, she also has been working to represent Shell and helped the company open its petrochemical plant in Beaver County.

What were the biggest challenges in launching the office in Pittsburgh? 
Launching the Blank Rome office in Pittsburgh required strategic growth to meet client needs. Attracting talent that fits our collegial and high-performance culture is essential. Our people are our greatest asset, and we prioritize maintaining a collaborative environment to provide exceptional client service consistent with the rest of the firm.

What areas of expertise have been most critical for you in representing Shell and its petrochemical complex in Monaca?
Witnessing it evolve from inception to operation has been such a rewarding partnership. As a litigator and business partner, collaboration with Shell’s experts and among Blank Rome colleagues has been critical and gratifying.
