Rising Star: Blank Rome's Justin A. Chiarodo

Blank Rome Partner Justin A. Chiarodo is profiled in Law360’s “Rising Star” series. In his interview, Mr. Chiarodo reveals what brought him to government contracts law and reflects on his most notable cases, proudest career moment, and balancing his many commitments. He also offers advice to young attorneys, encouraging them to devote some of their time to non-billable work and bar associations.

Interview Excerpt:

Blank Rome LLP’s Justin Chiarodo has achieved wins for prominent clients in billion-dollar government contract bid disputes, such as Oshkosh Defense’s successful defense of a multibillion-dollar tactical vehicles contract, and advised on regulatory matters for high-profile mergers and acquisitions of government contractors, earning him a spot as one of five government contracts attorneys under age 40 honored by Law360 as Rising Stars.

“I really did kind of fall into [government contracts law]. I really just got drawn into it, by the regulatory aspect of it and the pace,” [Chiarodo] said. In 2012, Chiarodo, then 33, was named Dickstein Shapiro’s youngest ever partner for its government contracts practice. Last year, Chiarodo was among more than 100 Dickstein Shapiro attorneys to join Blank Rome as part of a merger between the firms and was promptly named vice chair of the practice. After years working in the space, Chiarodo says practicing in government contracts continues to offer new challenges daily. “Given the regulatory nature of the work, it’s always changing.”
