With more sunshine and higher temperatures comes a flood of summer associates to Philadelphia’s major law firms. Firms are aiming to give their associates a taste of life as an attorney in Big Law, setting expectations on performance early and incorporating technology across training sessions.

Leaders at Blank Rome, Saul Ewing, Stradley Ronon, and the newly christened Troutman Pepper Locke all touted their generative AI usage as something that is addressed in summer associate trainings.
“The biggest change to our training is we have two separate AI trainings for summers. It’s a very hot topic these days,” said Blank Rome senior manager of attorney recruiting Kelsey Rowan. “Our attorneys have been starting to implement [AI] into their daily practices … attorneys are requesting more and more resources [on this] for summer associates, so we moved up the second of the trainings earlier in the summer so associates can use AI throughout the entire summer they’re here.”
