Kathy Herman Appointed to the National Board of Directors of Minds Matter
Blank Rome Associate Kathy E. Herman has been appointed to the national board of directors of Minds Matter, a nonprofit organization that provides a multi-year comprehensive program designed to help accomplished high school students from low-income families achieve college readiness and success. Ms. Herman will serve on the board for a three-year term, where she will provide strategic direction for the program and help oversee the progress of Minds Matter’s mission.
Founded in 1991, Minds Matter’s program incorporates academics, mentoring, and enrichment experiences. Generally starting in their sophomore year of high school, students spend four to six hours per week during the school year in Minds Matter sessions with their volunteer mentors and instructors, and attend summer enrichment programs at prep schools, colleges, and universities. This year, Minds Matter’s 14 chapters nationwide served 667 students with an average GPA of 3.81, and an average family income of less than $25,000. She is also a member of The Circle of Aunts and Uncles, a multi-generational project to provide low-interest loans and social capital to under-resourced entrepreneurs in the Greater Philadelphia region. Ms. Herman is an inaugural member of the OnRamp Alumni Advisory Council, advising the OnRamp Fellowship Program, a one-year “returnship” for experienced female attorneys returning to the legal profession after a career hiatus.
