Blank Rome LLP is pleased to announce that Emily S. Childress has joined the firm’s Washington, D.C., office as an associate in the Energy practice group, which recently welcomed associate Melissa A. Scacchitti in Philadelphia. Emily joins Blank Rome from Stoll Keenon Ogden.
Emily concentrates her practice on energy and utility matters. She has extensive experience representing clients before state public utility regulatory agencies in various issues, including utility rate case proceedings, applications for certificates of public convenience and necessity to construct utility infrastructure, applications for approval of financing requests and regulatory accounting treatment, investigations regarding compliance with state statutes and regulations, and utility tariff filings.
Emily has experience in eminent domain litigation on behalf of public utility clients to obtain utility easement rights. She also drafts pleadings, briefs, discovery requests and responses, petitions involving public records requests, and confidentiality agreements. Earlier this year, Emily was recognized as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers.
Admitted to practice in Kentucky and working under the supervision of firm principals admitted in D.C., Emily received her J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, her MSW from Brescia University, and her B.S., summa cum laude, from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
During law school, Emily served as a legal extern for a Cincinnati-based non-profit and a judicial extern to the Honorable Candace J. Smith at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. She was also the blog chair and an executive board member of the University of Cincinnati Law Review.
