Blank Rome Honored by the D.C. Circuit Judicial Conference Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services

Blank Rome LLP is pleased to announce that the Firm was honored by the Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services of the Judicial Conference of the District of Columbia Circuit for its exceptional record and outstanding leadership in pro bono service in 2015.

The Firm was recognized at the 13th annual “The 40 at 50 Judicial Pro Bono Recognition Breakfast,” held on April 21, 2016, at the William B. Bryant Annex Atrium, E. Barrett Prettyman U.S. Courthouse, and presented by the judges of the District of Columbia federal courts. Chief Judge and Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland delivered remarks at the breakfast, urging more lawyers to close the access-to-justice gap. The “40 at 50 Judicial Pro Bono Recognition” is given to firms where at least 40 percent of its attorneys in Washington performed 50 or more hours of pro bono work. Blank Rome is deeply committed to pro bono service, and through its formal pro bono policy, led by Grant Palmer, Chair of Blank Rome’s Pro Bono Committee, and Kathy Ochroch, Director of Blank Rome’s Pro Bono Services, the Firm requires that each of the Firm’s attorneys and paralegals undertake at least 25 hours of pro bono service every year. As a result of this successful policy, Blank Rome had a record-breaking year for pro bono work in 2015, with more than 99 percent participation from the Firm’s attorneys.

In April 2016, Blank Rome was named a “Top Pro Bono Law Firm” by the Philadelphia Business Journal, and in February 2016, received the Houston Bar Foundation award as an “Equal Access to Justice Champion” for its outstanding pro bono firm contribution to the Houston Volunteer Lawyers. The Firm is honored to receive these awards in recognition of its pro bono commitment, and looks forward to its ongoing pro bono service in 2016 and beyond.
