More than 50 years after graduating from Rutgers Law School, a retired New Jersey federal judge and current partner at Blank Rome LLP is funding educational programs at his alma mater on his area of expertise: appellate advocacy.
Stephen Orlofsky, appellate co-chair at Blank Rome, has established the Stephen M. Orlofsky Endowed Appellate Advocacy Fund, the law school announced recently, marking the latest way Orlofsky has given back in a career spanning military service, two stints in the federal judiciary and multiple scholarships he's already founded along the way.
"It's really me giving back to Rutgers for what Rutgers gave me: essentially, a life in the law," Orlofsky told Law360 Pulse in a recent interview.
The six-figure fund will sponsor programs like classes in appellate advocacy and moot courts, which he might preside over himself, Orlofsky said. He stressed the importance of expertise in appellate law for lawyers of all types, including trial lawyers, who need to think about how to preserve issues for appeal.
"It's really a specialty, appellate advocacy, and something that students need to be trained in," Orlofsky said.
