In this Q&A honoree profile, Massimo F. D'Angelo, partner and co-chair of the firm's Real Estate Industry Team, shares insights into the team’s recent litigation successes, commitment to training, and what sets Blank Rome apart in the competitive New York legal landscape.
What are some of the department's most satisfying successes of the past year and why?
The most satisfying success of the past year was the decision obtained in the Eshaghpour case which made new law in the condo-coop realm. Specifically, the case now makes it easier to personally sue individual board directors or members of cooperatives and condominiums, respectively, wherever any unequal treatment is shown. This decision now better arms shareholders and unit owners who are being treated disparately by a board which should help to reduce discriminatory actions in the City going forward.
A prospective client in crisis calls and asks why your team should be retained. What is your answer?
For any litigation matter, I have litigated every single real estate issue that you can think of and regularly contribute to the development of the law. As for transactional matters, I have handled deals all over the country and the world in connection with high-stakes transactions involving significant parcels of real property.
