The program is presented in partnership with the Brooklyn Public Library Business &amp; Career Center and Pace University Small Business Development Center.

Whether an entrepreneur, artist, writer, or musician, you may be able to claim ownership of your idea or work. This presentation will provide small business owners with an overview of intellectual property (“IP”) rights through a discussion of trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and patents. The webinar will delve into the process of obtaining legally recognized IP protections as well as discuss common IP pitfalls for micro-entrepreneurs.

NELP provides free legal services to micro-entrepreneurs in New York City’s five boroughs who are either starting up a new business or already own an existing business. NELP can help entrepreneurs with legal issues such as: determining the best legal structure, corporate formation, drafting and reviewing business contracts, negotiating commercial leases, and obtaining intellectual property protections including trademarks, copyrights, and patents. NELP provides its services through legal presentations, small business legal clinics, and direct pro bono representation.
