A Blank Rome team recently secured a string of victories assisting a well-known historic Brooklyn Church with evicting squatters who were destroying the property and threatening the Church’s members.&nbsp;

The Charity Neighborhood Baptist Cathedral Church is a famous and historically African American Brooklyn religious community that recently moved its headquarters to a newly purchased building located at&nbsp;1843 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, New York.&nbsp;Immediately following the purchase, the building’s occupants were revealed to be difficult tenants who exploited New York’s tenant-friendly laws to holdover in the building despite lacking any leases, all while causing serious financial and property damage to the building.&nbsp;

The Church turned to Blank Rome to evict the bad actors, and after a number of successful summary holdover proceedings in civil court, the team was able to successfully return possession to the Church, evict the squatters, and block their multiple attempts to regain possession. Litigation saved the Church’s property from further damage, and stopped the serious financial harm caused by the squatters’ behavior, which included hoarding and multiple threats to harm Church members.&nbsp;

This success has allowed the Church to move forward with necessary repairs and renovations to their new religious home, and to rebuild the congregation now that the violent tenants have been removed.
