Sophia Lee Recognized as Take the Lead Honoree by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania
Blank Rome Partner and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer Sophia Lee was honored by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania (“GSEP”) at their signature Take the Lead event, which was held on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at the Crystal Team Room in Philadelphia. The notable awards program recognizes the community’s most distinguished women whose leadership and professional achievements “make the world a better place.”
Take the Lead is a girl-led ceremony that highlights GSEP’s mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, while honoring women leaders who exemplify these values. Unique to GSEP, Take the Lead enables girls and women from the community to forge long-lasting mentoring relationships designed to teach girls the skills they will need to become the leaders of tomorrow. Through the program, deserving high school aged Girl Scouts have the opportunity to shadow an honoree for a day, reflect on the experience, and present her with an award at the Take the Lead event, which is attended by more than 500 community leaders each year.
As a Take the Lead honoree, Sophia and her Girls Scout mentee, Rachael Thornton, were interviewed by NBC 10’s Rosemary Connors where they discussed the Take the Lead event and the Girls Scouts program as well as the importance of mentoring, paying it forward, and building the next generation of female leaders. In August 2019, Sophia was elected to the GSEP board of directors for a two-year term. As a board member, Sophia supports the GSEP’s efforts to build leadership for the future by strengthening the organization and the opportunities it offers to nearly 40,000 girls in counties across Eastern Pennsylvania. Notably, the board focuses on strategic goals surrounding the organization’s culture, communications and messaging, girl scout experience, volunteer experience, and financial sustainability and revenue enhancement.
