Blank Rome Receives 2018 Houston Bar Foundation Award for Outstanding Contribution to Houston Volunteer Lawyers

Blank Rome LLP is pleased to announce that the Firm received the Houston Bar Foundation’s (“HBF”) 2018 award for “excellence in pro bono service” by a mid-size firm through “outstanding firm contribution” to the Houston Volunteer Lawyers (“HVL”). The award was presented at the Foundation's Annual Meeting and Luncheon on February 14, 2019, which was attended by approximately 500 members of the Houston bar, including judges, community and business leaders, and members of the legal community.

In Blank Rome’s award profile, the HBF stated:

“Blank Rome has created and promoted a culture that recognizes the importance of ensuring equal access to legal representation for all. Every year, Blank Rome sponsors HVL’s four legal advice clinics in the Spring Branch community, as well as four veteran’s legal advice clinics. If volunteers are needed for other clinics, Blank Rome is one of the first firms to respond to the call. In addition to volunteering their time at legal advice clinics, the firm’s attorneys consistently provide extended representation to low-income clients. For years, the firm has maintained its status as an Equal Access to Justice Champion.”

The HBF was established in 1982 as a charitable arm of the Houston Bar Association. Since that time, the Foundation has supported programs that help provide legal representation to the indigent, promote community understanding of the legal system, and foster the administration of justice.

For more than 70 years, Blank Rome’s core values of respect for the individual, the community, and the law have driven and inspired our commitment to pro bono and community activities. Under the leadership of Barry Abrams, Chair of Blank Rome’s Pro Bono Committee, and Kathy Ochroch, Director of Pro Bono Services, the Firm encourages and supports pro bono service through training, mentoring, and promoting a culture that recognizes the importance of ensuring that everyone has equal access to legal representation. In recognition of Blank Rome’s commitment to pro bono service, the Firm has received numerous pro bono awards, including recognition as an Equal Access to Justice Champion, which annually honors our Houston office for being a model for pro bono legal services.
