Mr. Bennett and Ms. Carlson’s session, “Responding to Catastrophic Casualties: Managing a Marine Casualty,” is described below:
Marine insurers face unique challenges when dealing with large catastrophic casualties. Dealing with the merits of a large claim is often challenging, however, other challenges frequently arise including dealing with client’s expectations, the press, NTSB, USCG, U.S. Attorney, and other government agencies. This presentation will offer advices and case studies from a general counsel and attorneys who have been involved in significant marine casualties, including but not limited to: the F/B SeaStreak Wall Street allision; the 2003 Staten Island Ferry allision; and the sinking of the El Faro.
