Blank Rome Partner William Bennett and Associate Kierstan Carlson will be speaking at the American Institute of Marine Underwriters (“AIMU”) Marine Insurance Day Seminar on Friday, October 7, 2016, at the Baruch College Vertical Campus Conference Center in New York, NY, from 8:30 a.m.to 3:00 p.m.

This is an annual educational seminar representing six marine insurance industry organizations including American Institute of Marine Underwriters, Inland Marine Underwriters Association, American Marine Insurance Forum (“AMIF”), Association of Average Adjusters of the U.S. and Canada, Marine Claims & Recovery Forum, and Marine and Insurance Claims Association (“MICA”). The seminar, attended by industry professionals, continually receives outstanding feedback.

Mr. Bennett and Ms. Carlson’s session, “Responding to Catastrophic Casualties: Managing a Marine Casualty,” is described below:

Marine insurers face unique challenges when dealing with large catastrophic casualties. Dealing with the merits of a large claim is often challenging, however, other challenges frequently arise including dealing with client’s expectations, the press, NTSB, USCG, U.S. Attorney, and other government agencies. This presentation will offer advices and case studies from a general counsel and attorneys who have been involved in significant marine casualties, including but not limited to: the F/B SeaStreak Wall Street allision; the 2003 Staten Island Ferry allision; and the sinking of the El Faro.
