Blank Rome maritime attorney Matthew J. Thomas will serve as a speaker for the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (“NAMEPA”) 2022 Safety at Sea Seminar and AMVER & Benkert Awards, being held Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Matt will present “Regulations, Sanctions, and Other Operational Risks” as part of the “Setting the Stage—Shipping’s Risks in a Turbulent World” session, which takes place from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.

In addition to Matt’s discussion, the “Setting the Stage—Shipping’s Risks in a Turbulent World” session will include presentations on national security, U.S. Coast Guard (“USCG”) safety concerns, fires and other casualties, and mariner risks at sea.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Not since the end of World War II has the role of shipping in geopolitics been so critical. With it comes human, environmental, and corporate risks. NAMEPA’s Safety at Sea event will explore the role of shipping during today’s period of global disturbance with an eye on impacts to mariners, ships, and global trade. It will also look at emerging and future threats to “normal” maritime operations.

The USCG’s prestigious Benkert Awards for environmental excellence and AMVER’s Awards recognizing industry participation for voluntary rescue at sea will be presented at a reception following closing remarks from Ole Christian Schroder, Director, Environmental Compliance at Scorpio Group.

Blank Rome Maritime is pleased to be a sponsor of the Seminar.
