Blank Rome Partner Richard V. Singleton II is conference co-chair for the International Bar Association’s (“IBA”) Maritime and Transport Law Conference: Opportunities and Risks in Shipping in 2019, being held May 20 through 22, 2019, in Oslo, Norway.

The International Bar Association’s Maritime and Transport Law Committee, of which Richard is co-chair, is the world’s largest organization of international maritime lawyers, having 670 members representing every maritime jurisdiction.

Richard will chair the session on “Maritime Arbitration” on May 22 at 3:30, which will examine and compare maritime arbitration in London, the United States, Singapore, and Scandinavia.

Blank Rome Partner Thomas H. Belknap Jr. will be a panelist at the conference. Tom’s session, “Maritime Claims against Governments,” will take place earlier that day, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and will address under what circumstances a government can be held liable for maritime torts and other claims, the defenses that may be available to the government, including sovereign immunity, and other restrictions, limitations, and challenges to recovery.
