Hot Topics in Criminal Tax Enforcement
Blank Rome Partners Carlos F. Ortiz and Mayling C. Blanco will be participating in a panel, "Hot Topics in Criminal Tax Enforcement," at the 2017 New Jersey State Bar Association ("NJSBA") Annual Meeting taking place on Wednesday, May 17-Friday, May 19 at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Their panel will discuss the anatomy of a criminal tax investigation and provide a description of the process including potential charges, role of the accountant in the investigation, methods used by IRS to gather information, and Department of Justice approval process. It will also highlight a practical approach regarding how to handle a request for information from an IRS Special Agent, IRS initiatives, offshore tax evasion, and recent developments with regards to virtual currency.
