Gender Equality: The State of Our Union

Blank Rome was a proud sponsor of “Gender Equality: The State of Our Union,” the inaugural program of The Foundation for Gender Equality, held in New York City on April 25. Blank Rome Partner Marilyn Chinitz serves on the board of directors for the Foundation and also sponsored the event. 

Valerie Jarrett, senior advisor to President Barack Obama, and Amy Ziering, award-winning documentary film producer, gave compelleing keynote speeches to a capacity audience. Ms. Jarrett spoke on “Is Gender Equality Possible in the 21st Century?," while Ms. Ziering spoke about “Sexism, Lies and Videotape: Feminism and Responsibility in the 21st Century”.

The Foundation’s first education awards were presented to Roya Mahoob and Nicholas Ferroni. Ms. Mahoob, founder of The Digital Citizen Fund, spearheaded the creation of thirteen internet training centers in Afghanistan that changed the lives of more than 9,000 girls by introducing them to technology. Mr. Ferroni is an award-winning educator and activist, who uses educational exercises in the classroom to open students’ eyes to unconscious disparities experienced by women and girls.
